MISSION AND OBJECTIVE


Vision

NSD envisages that PWDs in Nepal will lead dignified lives in an inclusive, barrier-free and rights-based society with access to all the opportunities and rights enjoyed by the non disabled members of society.

 Mission

As an advocacy based organization NSD aims to empower PWDs through education, strengthen self-help organizations by establishing a strong network with concerned agencies, NGOs and local organizations, and to run rights-based activities for the development of PWDs.

 Objectives

NSD is a law abiding body that works in close coordination with related organizations to accomplish the following objectives:

  • To work for the protection and promotion of rights of the disabled.
  • To help make the disabled more independent and self-reliant.
  • To empower the disabled by fostering leadership development within the disabled community.
  • To uplift the status of the disabled as dignified citizens of the country.

 Activities

In order to achieve these stated objectives in particular, NSD is involved in the following activities:

  • Development of unity, co-operation and fraternity among the disabled.
  • Conducting research, organizing seminars and workshops and publishing books, newspapers and magazines on various subjects related to disabilities.
  • Improving public awareness through education to change prevailing negative attitudes towards the disabled.
  • Organizing educational, cultural, literary, sports and recreational activities to aid the mental and physical development of PWDs.
  • Initiatives for the protection, promotion and implementation of various international instruments and The Disabled Protection and Welfare Act 1982 and Rules 1994.
  • Cooperation between the national and international organizations and the pooling of resources and experience for mutual benefit.
  • Provision of a scholarship for the disabled by setting up a fund of a fixed nature.
